History
- The municipality of Piedmont was founded in 1923.
Its geographic location bespeaks the origin of its name.
- In 1938, Enrico Terzi acquired his first parcel
of land in Piedmont which was eventually to
expand to 48 million square feet. Domaine Terzi was born.
- Enrico and Zaira Terzi settled
with their family and opened an Inn known as Piedmont Country
Lodge, with the first rope tow in the Southern Laurentians. The
Inn gained great popularity thanks to its hospitality and its
homemade Italian cuisine. In addition, the inn's customers
could practice their favorite winter or summer sports and enjoy
a swim in the natural spring-fed lake.
- Mr. Terzi used to pick up his clients at the train
station and take them to the Piedmont Country Lodge and Hotel in
his horse drawn sleigh.
- The introduction of cross country skiing in the
region by the legendary Herman "JackRabbit" Johannsen,
created a frenzy among sports enthusiasts.
- In fact, the Southern Laurentian region became
a playground not only for Montrealers, but also for Eastern Canadians
and Americans from the Northeast.
- Gradually, Mr. Terzi built the area's infrastructure for residential
developments of superior quality.
- The Piedmont Golf Club and Cross Country Ski Centre,
built in 1950 by adjacent owners completed this residential area
in a unique fashion. In 1963, part of the Domaine was developed
for the creation of Ski Mont Olympia.
